There are thousands of games to choose from in Roblox. But many are pay-to-win, have unfair overly addictive qualities, and could even be bad for you or your child’s mental health.
With so many experiences available, it’s hard to find the best options for your kids (or for you!). I have years of experience working with kids and I’ve played a lot of Roblox games with them. Here is a list of games I think are fun, creative, or interesting without being overly violent or depending too much on Robux micro-transactions.
If you’re a parent looking to learn more about protecting your child in Roblox, please see my guide on that subject.
RPGs
These are games for kids who love open world RPGs! If you enjoy games like Zelda, Runescape, WoW, Stardew Valley, or Subnautica, these might be right up your alley.
Note, these games require some reading to understand what’s going on. Probably best suited to ages 8 and up.
Islands
Islands is one of my favorite games on Roblox. It’s a MMORPG style game combined with building elements, kind of like World of Warcraft or Runescape meets Minecraft. I started playing it with a cool kid I was babysitting and then I played it for hours at home.
Regardless of what you enjoy, you’ll probably find something to like about Islands. It’s called Islands because everything’s on floating islands! There are tons of different islands to explore. You can even build your own island.
Although there are some perks to buying a game-pass, this game is not pay-to-win, and can still be totally fun without spending any Robux.
- Features of Islands
- Build your own island – Building system is like Minecraft. Build whatever you could imagine.
- Farm – Grow many crops, cook them, sell them, feed them to animals, etc.
- Mine – Mine rocks in the mines for special building blocks and to craft useful items or weapons
- Combat – Fight monsters with swords, bow and arrows, or magic spells! Monsters may drop rare loot if you’re lucky. The combat system in this game is pretty simple, but still fun. There’s really not any blood or gore.
- Fish – You can go fishing! Sometimes you’ll even find rare items.
- Cooking – Process your crops and turn them into pies.
- Factory – You can build a factory to process your items automagically.
- Trade – Trade your special items with other players or buy items from user-created shops.
Overall, Islands is a fun, friendly world with constant updates and special events. It’s a great place to hang out, explore, and be creative.
World // Zero
This is probably the most beautiful looking game on this list. Fight monsters with swords, spells, and more. There’s no blood or gore, so it’s fairly tame in the violence department. Go on epic quests!
This game has loot boxes of sorts (treasure chests), but you can earn them for free by beating the levels. A game pass is available for extra loot. I wouldn’t consider this straight up slot machine/gambling. It’s a fairly minor part of the game. The game appears to be perfectly enjoyable with or without buying the game pass.
Dragon Blade RPG
Next on the list is Dragon Blade RPG. This is another RPG like Islands, with settlement building incorporated. You gather resources, build tools, fight monsters, and build your settlement! Of course, you can also ride dragons once you’re a high enough level. The graphics are inspired by Zelda, Breath of the Wild. It’s a very good-looking Roblox game!
Like Islands, you don’t have to pay to win this game. It’s perfectly fun without spending any Robux. However, you can purchase game passes if you’d like to level up faster.
Tycoon / Life Simulation / Strategy Games
Roblox has many great (and not so great) Tycoon/Simulation style games. These are perfect for people who are creative, enjoy building, and things of that nature. If you enjoyed playing The Sims, Cities Skylines, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Surviving Mars, Planet Zoo, Planet Coaster, or similar games, you’ll likely love these!
Because of their complexity, you probably have to at least be a second grader to play these games. To really get good at them, you might need to be older than that (grades 5+ ish).
Retail Tycoon 2
In this game, you get to build and manage your own store! You can design your store layout, decide what you’re going to sell, set the prices, hire/fire staff, and catch robbers.
Note that there are many similarly named games. You want the one by Secondhand Studios.
This is a very creative game that behaves much like The Sims in terms of building style. You can customize your walls, floors, furniture, structure, parking lot and more. Then drive around and visit neighbouring stores!
Game passes give you access to extra special items, vehicles, and building styles. However, this game can be easily enjoyed for hours without spending a dime.
*Note on Guns/Violence This game has absolutely no violence or anything. You can’t kill or hurt other players. You can, however, buy an add-on with Robux that enables military equipment and guns for sale. Players can drive around tanks. The guns are not usable. They’re just things you can sell in your store.
Theme Park Tycoon 2
If you enjoy Roller Coaster Tycoon or Planet Coaster, you will LOVE this game. You get to design and build your own theme park. From the rides to the paths and the trees. You can customize every turn and loop on the roller coasters, place small food shops and drink stands, and much more! Great for aspiring engineers.
Like all the games on this list, it’s free to play and perfectly fun without spending Robux. You may buy a game pass if you’d like to have a super enormous park, bigger rides, etc. You can easily spend hours playing this game before you hit a point where you might need a game pass.
Restaurant Tycoon 2
By: @Ultraw
There are many restaurant simulators/tycoon games out there. However, this is probably the best! Design your own restaurant, figure out the menu, hire some cooks, and start seating guests. Earn money and grow your restaurant.
This game is perfectly fun without Robux as well, though a Game Pass can be purchased if you’d like extra fancy furniture and such.
This game is just slightly less complex than the last two. A first grader might be able to play it.
Race/Driving
Racing games can be fun for kids of all ages, and are usually pretty easy to figure out!
Taxi Boss
By: Taxi Boss Group
Start from the ground up with a simple taxi. Find customers and take them to their destinations. As you earn more money, you can buy cooler cars and attract wealthier clients!
Have fun taking people on rides, or just drive around the city for fun.
No game pass is required to have fun in this game. In-game purchases include extra money, more vehicle customizations, and a pass that gives you a few extra features.
Driving Empire
By: Empire Games
More into racing than shuttling people around in taxis? Give Driving Empire a try! This is a more traditional racing style game. Race around a large open world in one of over two hundred different vehicles. Earn money from racing and upgrade your car.
The Game Pass grants you 50% more money, so you can get newer cars faster. Still, it’s very playable for free.
Vehicle Legends
By: QuadraTech
Another great racing game similar to the last one I mentioned. Vehicle Legends allows you to race, earn money, and purchase many vehicles. Besides cars, you can also fly planes and drive boats! So there are more vehicle types in this game.
The Game Pass grants you slightly more money. But it’s super playable for free.
Other/Unique Games
Roblox has some unique games to offer which don’t really fit into the other categories. Here are a few of the best Roblox games almost everyone enjoys.
Shark Bite 1 and 2
By: Abracadabra
Shark Bite is one of the most famous games in Roblox. Nearly every kid I’ve worked with over the last few years has played it. The premise is simple, but a lot of fun.
A new round of the game begins once every few minutes. From up to 15 players per game, one is randomly selected to be the shark. The remaining dozen people are given boats and are sailors. They sail around and try to shoot the shark, or survive for a few minutes. The sharks’ goal is to eat all the people. If the shark cannot eat everyone before the timer expires, they lose.
It’s harder to be a shark than a sailor. The shark moves automatically and can be difficult to control, especially if you’re new. It is, however, very rewarding when you destroy someone’s boat!
There are a few small items you can buy with Robux, but nearly all the content is earned in the game for free.
Shark Bite 1 is the original. Shark Bite 2 is the updated version with better graphics. They both play nearly the same.
Violence/Gun Note: This game is rated for all ages. However, there is slight violence in the aspect where you shoot the shark. Kids of all ages play this game. Due to its simplicity, even younger kids (like 5 or so) can usually figure it out.
Wacky Wizards
By: Whacky Wizards
Wacky Wizards is an odd, but fun game. You are given a cauldron, and a table covered with various ingredients. You mix the ingredients in the cauldron to create potions. When you drink a potion any number of silly or fun things might happen. For example, one might make you giant, another might make you sick, and another could turn you into a bee! Some potions grant you special abilities.
You must explore the world to find hidden potion ingredients to add to your recipes. As you make more recipes and gain more abilities, you use them to find even more new hidden ingredients.
This is a truly unique game that most kids will enjoy. It’s simple enough for even kids as young as 4 or 5 to figure out.
Some of the high-tier ingredients are only available if you purchase Robux. You’ll still get hours of fun from the free stuff.
Violence Note: This game is good for all ages. There is extremely mild violence. You can use potions on others to explode them, make them immobile, etc. But it’s more funny/cartoonish pranks rather than actual violence. There’s no gore, guns, or anything like that.
Casual Roleplay
These games are perfect for kids who like to pretend. They’re kind of like virtual doll houses. They’re games where you can pretend to be a dinosaur or a bird, or play “house” with an imaginary family, for example. There’s no real strategy or skill involved, which makes them ideal for younger children. There’s also no violence, combat, or strategy really involved. Just log in, explore, and let your imagination do the rest!
Feather Family
By: ShinyGriffin
In this game, you pretend to be a bird. Pick your bird, choose your color, and explore the many environments. You can gather food and build nests. Other than that, there’s not much to do. Just be the best bird you can be and have fun flying around.
They have everything from pigeons to penguins and griffins to chickens.
You gain experience in this game simply by existing. The longer you’re logged in, the more birds you’ll have access to.
You can pay for premium birds like the Phoenix in the screenshot, for example.
Animal Life: Forest Roleplay
By: Humongous!
This game is very similar to feather family, except with less of a focus on birds. In this game, you can play as a fox, racoon, deer, panda, and more. Explore a forest and make friends. There are a few mini games you can find spread across the map.
They sell a VIP pass that grants access to a few extra animals. Most of them are free and the VIP is only 100 Robux ($1.25 USD).
Do you know a fun game in Roblox that’s suitable for most people and doesn’t require tons of Robux to win?
