Hello! I’m Kevin.

I’m a developer, web designer, graphic designer, and animal lover living in Colorado Springs, CO, originally from southeastern PA. I’ve been coding in one form or another since I was about twelve years old. My journey into coding began with my love for creative games like Roblox and Minecraft, where programming is essential to create fun, engaging experiences for friends.

Favorite Programming Languages

While I have the most experience with Java, my favorite languages are JavaScript and PHP. These languages, when used together, allow for the creation of reactive, engaging user experiences with database support and minimal overhead for small projects. Since these apps run in the browser, designing UIs with HTML and CSS becomes a seamless process.

Balancing Technical and Creative Work

I thrive on the balance between technical and creative tasks. Whether I’m coding a plugin or theme, or creating a new infographic or icon in Photoshop or Illustrator, I enjoy switching between these roles. This dynamic keeps my work interesting and engaging. When writing guides, I alternate between technical writing and producing videos and infographics, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience for my audience.

Projects I’m Proud Of

I’m particularly proud of the guides I’ve written on this website, Kevin’s Guides! They’ve been well-received and appreciated by many. I’m also working on growing my YouTube channel, though finding fresh content ideas can be challenging. Additionally, I’ve developed several Joomla and WordPress plugins, which are available for free on GitHub.

Overcoming Challenges

My journey hasn’t been without its challenges. I was a mediocre programmer in my early days. Through practice, reading many computer science eBooks, and watching educational videos, I’ve improved significantly. Combining my interests in programming and design has made game development, full-stack, and web development particularly appealing to me.

Motivation to Learn and Share Knowledge

I’ve always loved teaching and sharing knowledge. I believe education should be accessible to all and have been a strong advocate for free educational resources. The movement towards textbook-free courses in universities, relying on open educational content, aligns with my beliefs and motivates me to contribute to this cause.

Approach to Problem-Solving

My approach to problem-solving begins with brainstorming and planning. I consider the components, data structures, assets, and the best platforms and environments for the project. After diagramming and planning, I assemble the pieces. When in need of help, I turn to communities like Stack overflow and Reddit, or even ChatGPT.

Future Goals

Looking ahead, I aspire to develop products and services for educational institutions, aiming to improve the user experience of e-learning systems. Additionally, I’m interested in creating web apps related to addiction recovery, such as tools for managing recovery houses, tracking meetings, rent payments, appointments, and maintenance requests.

Hobbies and Interests

Outside of professional work, I have a passion for dogs and working with children. I’ve worked as a nanny and dogsitter, roles I found rewarding. Recently moving to Colorado, I enjoy exploring the mountains with my family and dog, Louis. I also love creative survival video games like Valheim, PalWorld, and Enshrouded.

I’m glad you’re here and hope you find these resources helpful. If there’s anything you need, want to hire me, or need help with a homework assignment, feel free to reach out. You can also check out my portfolio website and resume at Kevin’s Portfolio if you’d like to learn more.
