Site Update: Ads Are Back, Comments are on

Hello! Just a couple of updates on advertisements and the comment system.

I’ve re-enabled the comment system for all users, and guests. Guests may post with just a name and email. If I see a lot of spam, I may have to turn this feature off. However, usually we get good comments from users.

This site has ~100 registered users. I don’t bother them, and most of them never return.

I had to disable social login with Google and Facebook accounts because of errors with the plugin. Additionally, Facebook’s login API has changed. I will re-enable this later if possible.

Kevin’s Guides gets between 10 and 15 thousand pageviews per month. Not a lot by some standards, but a good start, in my opinion. It has continued to grow slowly in viewership over the past two years.

I have periodically turned ads on and off for this site. This site only costs $15-$20/mo in hosting at the moment. However, I’m a broke college student living in an ugly basement in Lancaster City, PA. I cannot afford to keep this site up without either advertisements or support from sponsors. Over the past few months, I’ve only received $10 in tips. I usually get $15-$30/mo in tips, which is enough to at least pay hosting costs.

I hate advertisements but I’ve decided to turn them back on until I get recurring sponsors or significantly more tips. I don’t get paid much for these ads, either. I’m only making $15-$30 a month when I run them. So if we get back to a point where ads are making less than donations, I’ll turn them back off again!

Anyways, thank you for reading. I appreciate your support!
